I will not show the picture or print the name of the coward that murdered 9 people in Oregon because that is what he wanted. He wanted to find something in death that he could not find in life and he wrote about it in his blog posts.
On a blog post linked to the killers email address, an Aug. 31 entry expresses sympathy for Vester Lee Flanagan II, a dismissed television reporter who killed two former colleagues during a live broadcast in Roanoke, Va.: “I have noticed that people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are.”
The entry continues, “Seems the more people you kill, the more you’re in the limelight.”
I refuse to give him the spotlight he wanted and I challenge the blogs that have posted his picture online to take it down now. I applaud the news networks that have withheld his picture and name from their 24 hour coverage and condemn those that are giving him the platform he craved.
Yes journalist have a duty to report this story so that we once again have the conversations of how to deal with mental illness, but there is no need to make this murderer a household name.
I agree with the sheriff…
